Ken and I met over 25 years ago at Brigham Young University. Ken moved into our ward at the beginning of winter semester as he had recently returned from his mission to Washington State. He was assigned to be our Family Home Evening Groups District Leader. I had wanted to plan a District Activity to go Tubing, so I was trying to find out who he was. Finally one day at church he was introduced to me (my roommates had met him at a Ward Dance the night before, but I had gone to dinner with my Uncle who had come to town). I told him my idea and he said sure - go ahead and plan it. (Still says the same thing today, most of the time) Also there was a fireside on campus that night by the two oldest Osmond brothers. One of them was deaf. He asked if I wanted to go? I said sure, after I got home from church one of my roommates was commenting that whe wanted to go to the fireside as well, I said come with us - no big deal - right? Ken was a little surprised that my roommate was coming, but I didn't think much about it. The next day was a holiday and we decided to invite our FHE brothers to go on a picnic at the park (this included Ken). We all had a good time playing frisbee and having lunch.
The next weekend was a Heritage Hall Dance and I was suppose to go as Vice-President of my Hall. I didn't have a date and my roommates had been on the lookout for someone for me to go with. They asked if I wanted to go with Ken, I said "Okay," as I didn't have anyone else of interest at the time. So they asked him to take me and told him it was a blind date and that I didn't know who I would be going with. (This was a ploy we used when we needed group dates - we always approved of the date first) So the following Saturday, we headed up to the canyon for the snow party I had planned and then that night was the Hall Dance, and believe it or not I even let him kiss me (even though my first roommate and I had a pact that we would never kiss on the first date. Technically the fireside could have been considered our first date even though I invited my roommate along.), or as he tells it I kissed him [Don't think so!] Anyway life went forward from there. Ken came around everyday, and even though I ended up sick and he came by when I was looking my worst, he still came back. That's true love! 10 days later he came over to watch BYU play in the Final 16 of March Madness. It was an exciting game and BYU won in the end. Everyone was so excited, especially Ken the avid sports fan, and afterwards we were talking about great things and he said "You know what I really want?" "What"? I asked. "I want you to marry me." and just like that we were engaged. We proceeded to call his parents who were totally shocked as they had no idea he was interested in anyone, and then my mother, who I had called the previous Friday to let know I was dating Ken and it was gettting serious, so she wasn't quite as shocked. And here we are more than 25 years later, 7 children, 7 grandchildren, and lots of adventures. Life is wonderful when you love someone and they love you back and are willing to work through all the other stuff.
